Information for New Students

  • KY is more expansive than other types of yoga. Its primary emphasis is on awakening creative life force energy in the body, often referred to as kundalini or Shakti. This energy is activated and elevated through a variety of tools and techniques, including posture, pranayam, mantra, visualization, the gong, and meditation. We also focus quite a bit on spinal flexibility, the nervous system, the glandular system, and the body's subtle energy systems, such as the chakras and the aura. You can expect dynamic movements, repetitive motions, and intentional breathing. All of this can create a deep sense of vitality and expansion of consciousness in ways that profoundly support your life experience.

  • People who are drawn to Kundalini Yoga are often seeking a deeper dimension in their movement or meditation practice, or in their lives in general. Many find themselves fed up with certain aspects of their lives - and are sincere about their commitment to introspection and transformation towards inner peace, boundless joy, and lasting fulfillment.

  • Yes, every class is beginner friendly. If you'd rather learn the basics in a one-on-one setting instead of a group, feel free to schedule a private session.

  • Here are some best practices:

Arrive with a relatively empty stomach.
    Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
    Bring a water bottle.
Refrain from wearing scents or perfumes.

Our studio is well-equipped with props, but if you prefer, you can bring your own mat, blanket, and a cushion or pillow for sitting.

  • Wearing white can be considered a form of color therapy, as it often promotes peace, imparts a sense of calmness, and expands the Auric body. Students are invited to wear white to class, but it is never a requirement.

  • Private sessions are for people who are brand new to the practice and would prefer to learn the basics in a one-on-one setting instead of a group. These sessions are also for individuals who want personalized support with a specific issue. I carefully curate private sessions to the individual's needs and goals.
